A vintage wooden tennis racket with good stringing. Made in England by William Sykes Limited based in Horbury, London. This tennis racket has been well used but the strings are all in very good condition for a racket of this age. Our research has found that William Sykes Limited was well known for making quality rackets before 1900. William Sykes took over Jeffries and Company in 1919 but sold their rackets under the Jeffries trademark. In 1942 William Sykes Ltd became part of the Slazenger group. This racket is similar to those dated around the 1930 to 1940's but we are unable to verify that or even if the William Sykes Ltd branding was continued after 1942. The shop name looks like Dobson and Robinson's and we have found a sports shop of this name in Ilkley.
